How it works, and why it is different

Classic online converters upload your file to a server, convert it there, then send it back. That is why they have size limits, queues and daily caps, and why you have to trust them.

Here, the same reference engines (FFmpeg, libavif, libjxl, mozjpeg, pdf.js, SheetJS, libarchive) are compiled to WebAssembly and run in your browser tab, on every core of your CPU. The file never leaves your device. Open the Network tab of your developer tools: it stays empty.

And where other "in-browser" converters can only write AVIF in Firefox, or hand you a PNG dressed up as an SVG, we ship the real encoders. It works everywhere, identically.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion runs in your browser with WebAssembly. This site has no file upload endpoint. Go offline after the page loads and it still works.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory.

Is it really free?

Yes, with no account, no cap and no watermark. Your device does the computing, so there is no server bill to pass on.

Why is it faster than other online converters?

Nothing to upload, nothing to download back, no queue, and our engines use every core of your CPU thanks to cross-origin isolation.
