Three ways to open it
- Drop the .tar file above: it opens and converts right here, nothing to install.
- For a desktop app: 7-Zip (Windows), The Unarchiver / Keka (macOS), built-in on Linux.
- If it still will not open, convert it to ZIP, that is what most people are really after.
Convert a .tar
Questions
What program opens a .tar file?
7-Zip (Windows), The Unarchiver / Keka (macOS), built-in on Linux. Or drop it here, without installing anything.
Why won't my .tar open?
Either the viewer does not know TAR (unix bundle of files, uncompressed on its own.), or the file is damaged or misnamed. Converting to ZIP fixes the first case.
Is it safe to open a .tar here?
Yes: the file is read in your browser and never leaves your device.
